Bridge to Learning

For over ten years, the Bridge to Learning program at the VMM has provided schools in the Lower Mainland with fully subsidized field trips to the museum. Eligible schools include those with financial barriers or those that serve at-risk or special needs students. Bridge to Learning covers the cost of a school program, a self-guided tour (free time exploring the museum) and charter bus transport for classrooms free of charge.

Accessible Education

All students should have the opportunity to enrich their learning experience. Programs outside the classroom help engage students more deeply with the curriculum. Students can touch objects, see artifacts and learn through hands-on play. The Bridge to Learning program addresses this need for Lower Mainland students.

The Bridge to Learning program is open to students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

Bridge to Learning is fully funded by the generous support of our donors. To learn more about supporting accessible education, contact

Our Vision

In 2024/25 we are striving to continue the growth of the program and expand it for greater equity, flexibility, and accessibility. We will be creating dedicated space for open-ended requests of access to the programs and spaces, i.e. Family Passes to ‘Kids Up Front’ or ‘The Kettle Society.’

With the expansion of the program, donations will contribute to community access to regular programs, assist with summer camp subsidies and provide subsidies to schools that request a pay-what-you-can model, providing more schools access to our programs. Through this expansion, we aim to have more people utilize our bridge to learning program at the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

Children gathered around a young man

We appreciated the kindness and knowledge of all the staff who accompanied us that day, and their great patience with the children. They have a wealth of knowledge and know how to answer any questions.

We had excellent guides who taught our class and all the adults something new in an engaging manner. I really appreciated them splitting the class into smaller groups. We loved the pirate hats as well.

We loved it and the timing is perfect.

Our students were raving about their days at the Maritime Museum!
