Sail Where Vikings Once Sailed with the VMM Raffle

We are excited to announce that our 2020 Raffle has been extended. You can now buy tickets until October 29, 2020. The winners will be drawn on November 3, 2020. This year’s raffle is exciting for us at VMM. The grand prize has been generously donated by a new partner, Adventure Canada. And the grand prize trip, Greenland to Iceland: In the Wake of Vikings is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. On the expedition you will sail where Vikings once sailed, walk where once they walked and take in scenic wonders as the Vikings saw them.

Adventure Canada, founded in 1987, is a Canadian owned and operated company that was established by a trio of enterprising adventurers. Adventure Canada specializes in Arctic adventures that allow travellers to experience otherwise impossible-to-get to places. Adventure Canada has been challenged by the cancellation of all 2020 trips to help slow the spread of COVID-19 but is looking forward to embarking on new adventures in 2021. The grand prize for our raffle, scheduled for July 13 to July 24, 2021, is one of those adventures.

The trip will take place aboard Ocean Endeavour, a 198-passenger expedition vessel built for Arctic waters. Ocean Endeavour is well laid out and spacious, offering guests ample space for private deck time, thoughtful gatherings for learning opportunities and creature comforts such as a sauna and spa.a group of people in a Zodiac in Arctic waters.

Adventure Canada trips are staffed with scientists, historians, artists, musicians and local experts who will ensure you get the most out of your trip. The staff on this trip specialize in knowledge relating to Greenland and its unique biology, geology and people. On your journey you will learn about the culture, natural history and anything else you want to know about Greenland.

The route explores the less-travelled regions of Greenland and includes daily zodiac trips to access landing sites or to cruise around the sea ice for a close-up experience with Arctic glaciers.

The trip begins in Reykjavik, Iceland (raffle winners will be flown to Reykjavik courtesy of VMM) and will cross the Denmark Strait. The first land excursions will be in the fjords of eastern Greenland. Landings will include hikes ranging from easy to adventure. The fjords are also a great spot for possible wildlife sightings. The zodiac cruises for this part of the journey will include many opportunities to get close to glaciers.

The journey will then move on to Prince Christian Sound in southern Greenland, a network of narrow channels and fjords featuring steep mountains that reach over 1200 meters (3900 feet).

The timing of this trip is perfect. In July the tundra wildflowers will be in bloom, showcasing the Arctic landscape in its splendour.

You will also get to visit Nuuk, the capital of Greenland before heading to Kangerlussuaq where you will board a flight to Toronto. The raffle winner will be flown home to British Columbia.

If you’re an Arctic enthusiast, this is a trip not to be missed. If you’re not an Arctic enthusiast, you will be after your Iceland to Greenland: in the Wake of Vikings adventure. You may even discover your own inner Viking.
