Are you passionate about maritime history, cultural heritage, and the marine environment? Are you eager to make a meaningful impact in your community? The Vancouver Maritime Museum (VMM) is seeking dynamic and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors to fulfill our:

  • Vision to transform the museum with innovation and diversity, and
  • Mission to inspire learning about the past, present and future of the maritime cultures, industries and journeys connected to the Pacific Northwest and the Arctic.

As a VMM Director, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the museum, guiding strategic planning, and giving policy direction to the VMM’s Executive Director.  Directors serve on a volunteer basis and are expected to attend monthly meetings, with some pre-meeting preparation. Directors also have the opportunity to contribute to committee work.

We seek a diverse range of voices and perspectives to provide a place of connection and community and build a shared sense of belonging.  The Vancouver Maritime Museum is strongly committed to removing barriers in hiring and Board selection processes for historically marginalized people, including those who self-identify as belonging to the diverse Indigenous communities or who self-identify as Black, Racialized, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, people with lived and living experience of mental health problems and illnesses, women or those belonging to the many equity-deserving communities.

We are currently looking for candidates with knowledge and experience in Indigenous cultural heritage, finance, fundraising, marketing, tourism, law, education, the Arctic, the marine environment, and maritime industries.

Please send an email expressing your interest in joining the Board and outlining your relevant skills and experience by April 27th to Tom Beasley, Chair of the VMM Nominations Committee. Selected candidates will be invited to have a conversation with the Nominations Committee, who will nominate potential Directors to the Board for recommendation and presentation to the members for approval.
