National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the Vancouver Maritime Museum
September 30th: 10am – 5pm. Admission by donation.
This year, the Vancouver Maritime Museum invites visitors to take part in a Witnessing activity.
On the Northwest Coast, Witnessing is a sacred responsibility — to listen deeply, to remember truthfully, and to carry stories forward. Together, we will reflect on what it means to be a Witness today, and how each of us can uphold this responsibility in our own lives and communities.
Let us Witness together.
The museum will be open to the public by donation.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. This federal statutory holiday was created through legislative amendments made by Parliament.
