Accessibility

Accessibility at the Vancouver Maritime Museum

At the Vancouver Maritime Museum, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can explore maritime history. We strive to make our exhibitions, programs, and spaces accessible to as many visitors as possible.

Below are some of the ways we support accessible visits to the museum.

Pay What You Can Sundays

We believe that cost should not be a barrier to experiencing the museum.

On the first Sunday of every month, our Pay What You Can Sundays, visitors are invited to explore the museum and contribute whatever amount they are comfortable with for admission. This initiative helps make the museum accessible to individuals, families, and community members from all economic backgrounds.

Advance booking is not required, but you can pre-book online.

Sensory Kits

To support visitors who may benefit from sensory tools, the museum offers Sensory Kits available at the front desk.

Sensory Kits may include:

  • Noise-reducing headphones

  • Fidget tools

  • Sensory comfort items

  • Visual supports

These kits are available free of charge during your visit.

Low Sensory Room

The museum offers a Low Sensory Room for visitors who may need a quiet, calming space during their visit.

This room is designed to provide a break from stimulation and can be used by anyone who needs a moment to rest, regulate, or decompress.

Visual Visitor Guides

We offer Visual Visitor Guides to help guests plan their visit and navigate the museum comfortably.

Visitor guides may include information about:

  • Exhibition spaces

  • Areas that may be louder or busier

  • Quiet areas in the museum

  • General accessibility information

These guides are available at the front desk and online.

A Safe and Welcoming Space

The Vancouver Maritime Museum is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for all visitors.

Our staff are always happy to assist during your visit. If you require support or accommodations, please speak with a member of our team.

We are continually working to improve accessibility across the museum and welcome feedback from our community.

GETTING HERE

By Car

Our parking lot is located off of Ogden Avenue. From Burrard St., turn onto Cornwall (right if coming from the bridge; otherwise left). Take the first right onto Chestnut. Stay on Chestnut until the street curves to the left. Instead of taking the turn, drive straight into our parking lot.

By Bus

The #2 bus from downtown stops on Cornwall near Cypress. When you exit the bus, take Cypress St. toward the water. At the end of the street you can take the path through the park to get into the museum from the rear entrance.

By Boat

The False Creek Ferries stops at the Vancouver Maritime Museum’s Heritage Harbour. When you disembark from the ferry, you can follow the path to the museum. For ferry timetable and tickets, see here.
